The Bible’s “Time-of-the-End.”
The “time of the end” is a technical term used in the apocalyptic book of Daniel and expanded on in Revelation. The time-of-the-end began with the end of the 1260 year prophecy mentioned 7 times in the Bible. That long time period ended in 1798 when the pope was taken captive, marking the end of the papal dominance of the Dark Ages. Since that date we have been living in the time-of-the-end. Many things were prophesied to happen in these 200+ years: knowledge was to increase and people were to run to and fro on the earth (Daniel 12:4). That has definitely happened. The Bible was to become elevated to world-wide access and best seller status (Revelation 11). That has happened with the invention of the printing press and Bible societies, the first of which began in 1804. Wickedness was to increase according to 2 Timothy 3. No one questions whether or not that has taken place. The gospel was to go to the whole world (Matthew 24:14). That is happening in one way or another right now. The book of Daniel was to be opened to our understanding and taught worldwide. Since the early 19th century, the “Advent Movement” has spread the messages of Daniel around the world. The “dark day,” the moon “turning to blood,” and the “falling of the stars” were to mark the entrance of the time-of-the-end. Those signs occurred right on time (between 1780 and 1833). The pre-advent judgment in heaven was to begin (Daniel 7 and
and as far as we know, it has been going on schedule, although we have no news reporters on sight to let us know. The “deadly wound” received by the papacy in 1798 was to be healed during this period. So far, it appears to be healing well. The “time of trouble such as never was” has been going on since WWI, and is set to get worse at any time. The “three angel’s messages” of Revelation 14 have been carried to the world since the 1840’s. Laodicea, the seventh of the seven churches of Revelation, is definitely the description of the Church today. During this period, false prophets were to arise and “mislead many.” As noted in last week’s newsletter, that is in full swing. Matthew 25 says that the “10 virgins,” both the wise and the foolish, would all be sleeping right up until the final wake-up call. There is no better way to describe what is happening in the churches that are carrying the “three angel’s messages” to the world. Paul said in 1 Thessalonians 5, that when they are saying “peace and safety,” then sudden destruction will come. The new pope is to be the peacemaker, according to the prophecies of Malachi and the pope’s own expressed desire.
Sometimes it seems that the “time-of-the-end” cannot go on much longer and 1798 still be included in the “end time” scenario. Yet, mathematically, the time-of-the-end has only been going on for 1/30th of this earth’s history. It definitely still qualifies.
So what is left to happen? A few very important things. The four angels holding back the winds of strife have not yet fully let them go (Revelation 7:1-3). Satan has not impersonated the coming of Christ (Matthew 24:21-23). The “beast from the earth” of Revelation 13:11 has not used its power to coerce worship yet. Beyond these three events, nothing of major importance is yet to happen, depending on how you interpret the seven trumpets of Revelation. These three events are really grouped together. When the four angels “let go” and the “time of trouble such as never was” moves into its final stage, the time will be perfect for the devil to impersonate Christ as the solution to the problems of the world. Then, with Satan appearing to be Christ beginning his 1000 year reign on earth, the coercion of worship by the beast from the earth will be the next natural event. They could happen rapidly and in quick succession. Time may be shorter than many think. On the other hand, one cannot discount the ability of God’s powerful angels to hold back the winds of strife for several more years.
Jesus said to watch and be ready (Luke 21). There are definitely many events to watch that remind us that His coming is near. Being ready is the biggest challenge during the time-of-the-end. It is a time of the most distractions compared to any other period in history. So, take up the challenge of Jesus, and keep watching, and stay ready.
Until next week,
Dennis
